STEINWAY TOWER PENTHOUSE

Rising 1,428 feet above Manhattan’s skyline, 111 West 57th Street—better known as Steinway Tower—stands as both a feat of engineering and an ode to the city’s gilded architectural legacy. Designed by SHoP Architects, this impossibly slender skyscraper melds the historic grandeur of Steinway Hall with a new, sculptural verticality. At its crown, a remarkable duplex penthouse, envisioned by the esteemed design studio Banda, serves as the ultimate expression of refined living.

Led by Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Banda has crafted a residence that bridges past and present. The design reflects the building’s narrative and its blend of architectural styles. A private elevator gallery opens to the 76th-floor great room, where soaring 14-foot windows frame uninterrupted views of Central Park. Sculptural furnishings soften the architectural rigor, with pieces such as Pierre Augustin Rose’s Saint Honoré Sofas and Pierre Bonnefille’s Cuprite d’Eau Coffee Table creating a sophisticated balance of form and function. Above, APPARATUS Signal Y pendants cast a soft glow, enhancing the space’s ethereal grandeur.

On the 77th floor, the primary suite spans the entire north-facing façade, offering a serene retreat above the city. Artful furnishings, including an Alta Chair by Oscar Niemeyer and an Alexandra Danilova pencil drawing by Andy Warhol, infuse character into the space. The suite also includes a private study, a walk-in wardrobe, and two marble-clad bathrooms featuring a freestanding polished nickel bathtub by William Holland and hand-cast bronze fixtures.

As the world’s skinniest skyscraper, Steinway Tower is more than an architectural marvel—it is a monument to craftsmanship and innovation. Every aspect of this development has been meticulously conceived, balancing homage to Manhattan’s classic skyscrapers with a vision for the future. Residences range from full-floor homes to sweeping duplexes, each with direct elevator access, panoramic views, and an unwavering commitment to material excellence.
