MOLONG HOUSE BY CM STUDIO
Set on a south-facing headland in Sydney’s Curl Curl, Molong House, designed by CM Studio, captures the essence of a casual coastal retreat. The residence has been designed to maximize northern light and frame views across Manly to the city, balancing a sense of openness with well-defined private zones arranged in distinct pavilions across three levels.
Throughout the home, curvilinear elements enhance flow, from the sculptural kitchen island to organically cut stone accents and arched architraves. The interior presents a cohesive yet layered approach, blending materials and forms in a balanced, sophisticated composition. Entering the property, a covered walkway leads through a tropical, walled garden to a carved timber door. Inside, crisp white walls accentuate timber ceilings, and a sculptural staircase ascends three levels, illuminated by a circular skylight that shifts light throughout the day. The upper level houses the master suite and two additional ensuite bedrooms, while the middle level is dedicated to living spaces, including a dining area, rumpus room, and pool terrace. A guest suite on the garden level opens to outdoor spaces, above a basement garage with utilities, a gym, and extensive storage.
CM Studio’s material selection reinforces the home’s relaxed, resort-like atmosphere, featuring a palette of wire-brushed oak, limestone, travertine, marble, and brass. The exterior materials, chosen for durability in coastal conditions, include sandstone, tallowwood, aluminum battened screens, and copper downpipes. Sustainability is woven into the design, with double-glazed windows enhancing energy efficiency, solar power generation with battery storage, and rainwater harvesting for garden irrigation.
Molong House is a sanctuary of natural materials, stunning views, and sustainable design, blending resort-style living with the sophistication of coastal architecture.
